  Florida FR44 Insurance FAQs

  What is FR44 Insurance?  The FR44 was created by the State of Florida for individuals that have been convicted of a DUI.  The FR44 filing is attached to an auto insurance policy to certify that you have the required liability limits of 100/300/50.  When you are convicted of a DUI the State of Florida considers you high risk.  They want to make sure you have high liability limits in the event you injure someone in an accident.

  How long am I required to carry FR44 insurance?  FR44 insurance is required for a period of three years from the date that the State of Florida processes your DUI conviction.  You should receive a letter in the mail stating that you need the FR44 filing.  It is important for you to ask the DMV when you FR44 is no longer required as they do not notify us or your insurance carrier.

  How do I get FR44 insurance if I do not have a vehicle?  If you do not own or regularly operate a vehicle, in most cases you can purchase a non-owners FR44 policy.

  Can I make monthly payments on my FR44 insurance?  The State of Florida requires FR44 policies to be paid in full for six months at a time.  They want to make sure that if they are going to reinstate your driver’s license, your insurance will not cancel for non-payment.
